My ‘Eternal Source’ collection of seascape paintings is inspired by the spiritual qualities of the North Devon coastline, in particular Saunton Sands Beach.
During my time as Artist in Residence at Saunton Sands Hotel I made a start on each of these pieces. Setting up my paints and easel in the Terrace Lounge I captured the essence of each artwork whilst overlooking the epic expanse of Saunton Beach and the Atlantic Ocean.
I believe that nature has a divine aspect that touches our soul and connects us to something greater than ourselves. Some call this ‘Source Energy’, which by its nature is everlasting. It is this that led me to name the collection ‘Eternal Source’.
By immersing myself in the stunning beauty of the coastline and its ever-changing moods, I feel a sense of deep peace and tranquility that is hard to describe in words. Through my art, I strive to capture this other-worldly essence of my local beaches.
My paintings are not just a representation of what I see with my eyes, but also an expression of what I feel in my heart. Whether it’s the glowing sunsets, the reflections in the sand at low tide, or the vastness of the skies reaching over the sweeping stretches of sand, each painting stems from a sense of awe and wonder.
I use a variety of techniques to create my seascapes, such as palette knife marks that evoke the movement of waves or clouds, or subtle blending of colors to convey the shifting tones of the sky and sea. As the weather, light and tides are constantly changing, each painting is unique and captures a moment in time that can never be repeated.
Ultimately, my goal is to create a sense of connection between the viewer and the beauty of nature that I have experienced firsthand. By experiencing the replenishing and restorative energies of these dynamic environments through my art, I hope to inspire others to appreciate, protect and enjoy the natural world that surrounds us.
