Autumn Equinox 2026
News and Reflections from the Studio

Dear Friends
Warmest greetings to you as we shift into Autumn. An especially warm welcome to those of you who are new here. I met a lot of lovely folks for the first time at Croyde Craft Market over the summer.
I have a couple of invitations for you and some studio updates too. Why not grab a hot drink and settle down for a few minutes read.
This Wednesday 23 September marks the Autumn Equinox, when the sun crosses directly over the equator, and day and night are held in perfect balance.
After a blistering hot summer, and all the busy outings, glittering sea swims, blue sky coastal rambles, craft markets, picnics under dappled shade, boat adventures and catching every glorious sunset possible, I am really looking forward to a few quieter, slower, and cosy months.
I've lit a candle to write this, and its soft flame is flickering next to a vibrant pink geranium stem gathered from our garden. Seeing them side by side feels like a nice representation for the shift from bright Summer to cosy Autumn.
And while we find ourselves walking the line between the seasons, it's a great time to reflect on the year so far, and set intentions for the winter.
My artistic highlight so far was exhibiting at Bath Art Fair in February. Even though this year has flown by, that event feels like it was quite a while ago now.
I've also sold lots of originals from Echo Beach Gallery - thank you!
Some beauties are still waiting for their perfect people, like the oil painting 'Moonlit Dance' shown above. This piece was inspired by my favourite scene at Saunton Sands - when the tide is low and the sun is setting. The reflections of the vast sky across the huge expanse of wet sand is a view I will never tire of!
In terms of intentions, the darker months ahead feel fuller this year. Not in a busy, overwhelming way, but a hopeful one. I have set a clear intention to focus on finishing my new website. Something I've been talking about for a while now..!
Exciting ideas for new paintings are lighting little creative fires in my belly, and I've been pulling together references, making sketches and clearing space in my log cabin studio, to prepare for some joyful creative play.
And as a valued member of my inner circle, you will be first to hear about the launch of both my website and release of new paintings!
In the meantime I have a couple of dates for your diaries.
The RNLI Art Show in Instow, raising funds for the lifeboats in Appledore. There will be a plethora of gorgeous artworks by local artists on display. And I will have greetings cards, open edition prints and two originals available to buy.
