What is the purpose of art? Another question that has endless answers.
I could easily write a massive essay about this! But luckily for you, I'm not going to.
It can be summed up quite nicely: the purpose of art is to enhance our lives.
Picasso quoted that 'art washes the dust of daily life off our souls'.
Imagine if you found a painting that you fell in love with. You save the money to make it yours.
You take it home, and it brightens up your mood every time you look at it. For the rest of your life!
That's priceless in my humble opinion.
And although a print can be enjoyed, nothing beats an original piece of art.
Something the artist has poured so much into: The result of thousands of hours of practice. The result of inspiration, motivation and of course, love.
A successful original piece of art really takes on a life of it's own and keeps on giving. Because all that energy poured in by the artist keeps on flowing back out of it.
Art also has a purpose recording history and culture. Conceptual art makes us think, even if it can sometimes be a bit weird and ugly. Art can communicate complicated messages in an instant. Music and the performing arts can entertain us for hours.
All art has the potential to completely change our mood. All art has the power to transport us into another world.
Even art that you don't like can be insightful, if you give it a chance.
One thing for certain, it's so much more than a pretty face...what do you think?
