Day 3 - How you started
My art business began many moons ago when I was 15 years old. A friend commissioned me to do a pencil sketch of her dogs and I gladly accepted! Unfortunately I don't have an image of that portrait in my archives, but we are still friends so will ask her to take a photo 😊
I soon had a steady stream of commissions and absolutely adored the work. I mainly created dog and equine portraits - the image here is my oil painting of a beautiful shire horse named JD.
I still enjoy the technical challenge of portraiture, but instinctively felt drawn to landscape painting, especially when we moved to North Devon. I have really focused on impressionist landscapes now, with a focus on the horizon, sometimes with mixed media and oil but mostly pure oil.
I set up my website in 2012, and set up social media and ordered businesses cards in 2013. That's when it started to feel like a fully fledged business, but really I started Amy Jobes Art before I even finished school.
